31 octubre trick-or-treatHappy Halloween! I'm heading out to see a Halloween costume parade tonight. I hope you all have a fun and spooky night! :-) 27 octubre I am not worthyI'm pretty annoyed with the MSN Spaces administrators. They keep putting my blog on the MSN Spaces home page and clearly, whoever is doing it has not even glanced at my blog for a very long time. The current description reads: Ariana's Space Musings of a Chicago teacher who's finished her master's degree That stuff is old. My blog was renamed at least a year ago. I no longer talk about teaching much since taking a new position in September. I still work at a school, but most of my responsibilities are administrative . I got my masters degree last year also. I have purposely tried to move away from blogging the teaching theme because I found out that one of my co-workers discovered my blog. I made her promise not to tell anyone, but who knows if she did or not. That means that I can no longer talk candidly about my work unless I am saying all good things. Lucky for me, I like my job and 99% of the people who work there (and I'm not just saying that.) I also have to carefully monitor things I reveal about my personal life, in case my co-worker is reading this. The reason she found my blog in the first place was because it was featured as Space of the Month. At that time I had pictures of myself on my blog so it was easy for her to figure out it was me. I have tried to contact the MSN admins to ask them to please stop putting my blog as Space of the Month (seriously, they have featured me 5 times.) First of all, I don't deserve it. One time when they featured me I hadn't updated in about a month. All of a sudden I noticed an upsurge in traffic and people leaving me 'Congrats' messages. I certainly don't deserve credit for abandoning my blog for a month. MSN Spaces administrators, if you're reading this (which you're not), do not feature me on the Spaces home page anymore. Thanks. 23 octubre tragedy strikes CAThe fires in California continue to rage out of control. I'm very saddened for those who have been affected and my thoughts are with them this evening. 19 octubre cough-cough-sniff-sniffI'm home sick today with a cold. I made my best effort to go to work. I woke up at my normal time, 5 am, ate breakfast and took a shower. That took all my energy. I crawled back into bed and slept until 10 am. Then I watched Oprah and ate hot soup. Now my eyes are falling closed again. Time for a nap. I'm going to visit my grandma in Michigan this weekend. She has been battling cancer for a couple of years. The doctors told her she was cancer-free after her mastectomy. Six months later they said she has it back. I shouldn't be around her at all if I have a virus, since her immune system is weak. I've had this visit planned for over a month so I'm going no matter what. If I'm not completely well tomorrow I'll just go anyway, but keep my distance. If necessary, I'll stand outside on the porch and chat with her through the screen door. ;-) 07 octubre Saturday morningI'm hosting a friend from Montreal who is here to run the LaSalle marathon. The course runs right through my neighborhood. I caught up with her at mile 8 and threw her a big, loud, cheer. Right now she must be at about mile 16 with ten more miles to go. I am a bit worried because of the heat. It's 81 degrees and sunny. Those runners were pouring sweat and some were looking pretty weak. They weren't even half- way to the finish line. Tomorrow we are supposed to go sight-seeing. We will have to see what kind of shape she'll be in. She says that usually (she's run a few marathons before this one) she can walk fine the next day, but she just has trouble going down stairs. So I promised her we would seek out the elevator-equipped sights around the city. :-) 06 octubre Campaign for BurmaThis shocking photo reveals the depth of the atrocities being committed in Burma. I just learned that today is a global action day for Burma. There is a protest scheduled for noon, here in Chicago. Click here, for more information about today's planned events. 04 octubre down with BushI'm really disgusted by Bush's veto of the Child Health Care bill. Seriously, that man has to be on crack. Nothing he does makes sense. 02 octubre DarfurA friend of mine is one of the featured photographers at an outdoor exhibit at the Field Museum called Darfur/Darfur. If you are in Chicago, check it out. The Exhibit Darfur/Darfur is a traveling exhibition of digitally projected images that tells two interwoven stories: of the peoples’ rich cultural traditions, and of the horrors of the ongoing humanitarian crisis. The exhibition draws on the work of eight photographers who have documented this crisis: former U.S. Marine Brian Steidle, and photojournalists Lynsey Addario, Mark Brecke, Helene Caux, Ron Haviv, Paolo Pellegrin, Ryan Spencer Reed, and Michal Sadfie. Accompanied by Sudanese-inspired music, the eight-minute program of changing images will be projected on the north façade of The Field Museum each night from October 7 through October 12, between the hours of 7:00 and 10:00pm. |
